  1. How can we aplly the Series method in our English class?

  2. Gouin Girls says:

For teaching English as a second language, the Gouin Series can be used to introduce new grammatical patterns, language chunks, cultural information, etc. It’s simply the vehicle for tying language together in context. Even if your goal is to practice a particular tense, you can introduce and drill a Gouin Series in simple present tense to get students comfortable speaking. The gestures are an amazing memory aid! Then the lesson can focus on transforming those phrases already in the learner’s minds into a particular tense. Makes the lesson more meaningful. I hope that answers your question. If you can tell us a particular topic you’d like to teach, we can give you a more meaningful example of how to do so with a Gouin Series. Thanks for stopping by :-)

How can we use the Gouin method in teaching literary texts?

  4. Gouin Girls says:

I have used Gouins in the past to preview a literary text. For example, a GS about Petit Prince (main characters, ideas, etc.) performed orally as a pre-reading activity. A sort of “kick-off” to reading a book. I have taken short picture books and taught them orally following the Gouin method. Then my novice-level students were ready to read with confidence. (School by John Burningham is one example that’s perfect for elementary.) Non-fiction readings–science for example–can be performed as a Gouin before reading. Great way to establish some prior knowledge. You could also use a Gouin Series as a post-reading activity by having students write and perform their own based on a text. They can either summarize or figure out a way to take exact lines of text and bring them alive through props/visuals/gestures. Hope this gives you a few ideas!
